Detailed description of Capital Canyon Club

Capital Canyon Club, previously named Hassayampa Golf Club, is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Prescott, Arizona.

Capital Canyon Club sits on the site of the original Hassayampa Country Club, established in 1919, the First Golf and Social Club in Northern Arizona.

In 1919, a group of returning WWI vets and Prescott's local community leaders got together and decided they needed to create a golf course.

They acquired 85 acres of beautiful land and soon opened Hassayampa Country Club, nine challenging holes that were the centerpiece of the first golf and social club in northern Arizona. Hassayampa Country Club maintained a prestigious reputation as the finest club of its type in northern Arizona for fifty years until it closed in 1969.

The original course lay dormant and discarded for almost 30 years, when in the early 1990's, urged by a group of local golfers and citizens, Desert Troon development company acquired the property where the old Country Club stood, and additional property in the surrounding area.

Desert Troon hired Tom Weiskopf to design the new 18 hole course. "Hassayampa had the three natural features that every architect wishes for, big trees, natural streams and very significant elevation changes," said Weiskopf. "Land as spectacular as Hassayampa deserves nothing less than a superior golfing experience," he added.

Six of the new 18 holes were overlayed on the site of the six of the original Country Club's holes. The other holes extended up into the higher elevations the property, creating spectacular views.

Respecting the existing landscape and honoring the history of the course were strict themes in course design and construction.

The new Hassayampa Golf Club opened in August of 1996.

The result is a stunning 18 hole Par 71 course. The various elevations of the course, which range between 5,200 and 6,000 feet, allow for breathtaking views. While preparing for a tee shot, it's difficult to overlook the 360-degree vantage points offered from many of the tee boxes.

With new ownership in place, renovations were made and the course reopened on Fourth of July holiday, 2015, along with the name change to Capital Canyon Club.

Beautiful golf course. Exceptional views. The only drawback for the 'average' golfer - it's private. Was able to play on an 'introductory offer'. Guess they're looking for new members.

Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Expensive and worth it, Best course in the area
